Most people worry about money at some time. Who would not like more money? Each day we are bombarded with advertisements to buy something, to spend our money. All the gifts we have been given are not ours to keep. What we have been given, we need to manage it and to share it. We are called to be stewards.
Why do we need to give money to the Church?
The Church has been given a mission by Jesus Christ – to make disciples, to baptise people, to teach Jesus’ commandments to love God and to love one other, and to remember that Jesus is always with us. (see Matthew 28:19-20) We are the Church. Everyone baptised in the Church is invited to contribute to this mission.
What should you give? That’s between you and God. Sometimes, we are tempted to think our gift is insignificant because it is a small amount. The value of what we give is in proportion to what we have.
