Fr Alex Varghese

Parish Priest

I am Fr Alex Varghese. I come from the Diocese of Cochin, in India.

In my family I am the 5^th among 8 children. My father passed away 3 years ago. My mother lives with my youngest brother. I have 10 nephews and 8 nieces.

I was ordained a priest on 26^th December 1992. Since my ordination I have worked in India as an Assistant Parish Priest for four years in two parishes and as a Parish Priest for twenty years in four parishes with one year as a Chaplain of our hospital.

It was on May 5^th 2017, I came to Australia. Since then, I have been working here in this Diocese of Rockhampton.

For the last 5 years I had been working in the Cluster Parishes of South Mackay as an Associate Pastor for 1½ years, Administrator for 2 years and then 2 years as a Parish Priest of Walkerston and Pioneer Valley Parishes.

Now I am at St Joseph’s Cathedral Rockhampton as an Acting Parish Priest of the parishes of Rockhampton.

I am very grateful and thankful to Bishop Michael McCarthy for accepting me to work in this diocese.
